Fresh Cape Gooseberries

Special ordered, and imported from Colombia we have an excited new produce option to try next week: The Cape Gooseberry!

Cape gooseberries, also known as Ground Cherries, are native to South American, and are closely related to the tomatillo. They are covered in a green husk, like tomatillos. The fruits themselves are about the size of a cherry tomato, and are bright orange.

They are quite sweet in flavor, and very unique! Their flavor changes significantly through the ripening process. They can be eaten raw, as they are, or make a delicious addition to salads. Use them as you would cherry tomatoes, but enjoy the much sweeter flavor and vibrant color. A very cool new fruit to try!
