We are very happy to have heirloom tomatoes back on the list for next week, this time the organic variety from Eastern Carolina Organics! If you've never had an heirloom tomato then you've never tasted a real tomato! With their irregular shape and cracked skin, Heirloom Tomatoes won't win any beauty contests, but you won't find better flavor anywhere. Commercial tomatoes have been cultivated to produce a uniformly red color, firm texture, and perfectly round shape. Something had to go! Unfortunately for tomato lovers, it was flavor. Heirloom tomatoes are old-fashioned varieties that still have that wonderful, full-flavored tomato taste of 100 years ago! Too fragile to ship, they are only available from local farms. The season is short, so enjoy them while you can!
